First, they were called into action to look into a mass zoo breakout, using their peculiar abilities to solve a demon's game for the sake of the people of Sty. Then, they were thrown into the game's twisted loops and drained of their lives. They were broken, publicly and emotionally. They were betrayed. The Ravenlung siblings, Dusk, Adrian, and Venelope, are on the run from the law and demons alike, desperately clawing their way through the frozen Flakelands of Octovious's Upper Boil, pursued relentlessly by terrors unimaginable. They are slowly dying, and are set to fall prey to the desperate hungry of a mysterious creature known as 'Ven' and her horrific onryo pet, 'Doggy.' All of their hopes for survival now lay within the mysterious Downstairs, a land of governing authorities and warring gangs, of living remnants of the Garden of Eden and twisted, salivating nightmares... The Ravenlungs have escaped Sty and fallen into a much more dangerous game, and this one goes beyond even that of the Gift-Giver, Dolos. Questions arise, questions that may lead them to their final demises: Just who are the governors of Downstairs who have taken such a seemingly random interest in their capture? Why were they driven from their home, accused of a horrific crime that they never committed? Just who is the mysterious Lady Horo, and why does she send the equally mysterious Writer to bring them to her? What is her obsessions with Dusk and Adrian? And what, pray tell, is this Flame that everyone keeps going on about? What is this Flame that the Ravenlungs seem to have such a powerful link to? Betrayal was only the start of it all. The Ravenlungs will soon find that their destinies, already darkened to the point of insanity, will intertwine with not only the fate of their own world, but many, many others... In the dark, strange second tale of the Ravenlungs' twisted journey, innocence will be explored in the most dimly lit of existences, and hidden powers may only become a commodity with time.
