Overview
Introducing the monthly digest of weird fiction from Nightscape Press! In this debut issue of Weird Whispers we bring you a loose theme of origins. Paul Jessup gives us the first installment in his regular "Surveying the Weird" column, choosing to kick off with a focus on the weird side of winter in "Snow Weirds the World." Our fiction in this issue begins with Todd Keisling conjuring up a subtle yet terrible cosmic horror with a piece that follows a woman so desperate to have a child that she does the unthinkable to summon her own little bundle of joy from the endless void. Then Kurt Fawver births emotion and chills in an ambiguous piece about a couple trying and failing to have their first born only to be haunted by the child-that-could-be in "Parturition." After that, Gwendolyn Kiste enchants us with a somber and whimsically weird tale about a strange young woman taken from the remains of a fire-torn shack she calls home and then thrust into the limelight of modeling and viral social media in "The Maid from the Ash: A Life in Pictures." And finally, Fiona Maeve Geist wraps it all up with a critical analysis of this issue's stories. Each piece of fiction is accompanied by extras that dig deeper into the story and its author including story notes and writing tips from the author, and more.
