The Thaylian Asylum- Stories of the Insane, the Dead and the DamnedVolume 1On the 13th of September 2001, the population of the Thaylian Asylum were reported missing. Of the 68 patients and 27 staff, with the exception of one survivor, only fragments remained, leading to the conclusion a terrible struggle had taken place. The surviving witness was unfortunately unable to give any coherent account of what had occurred and for three years the case remained open. However, during a renovation project of the premises in 2004, a secret archive was discovered in a hidden sub level containing over 15,000 documents. On further analysis, it was determined that the documents found were written by the patients themselves, under increasingly unusual conditions, which according to a former inmate of the facility, were attempts at channelling, otherwise known as automatic writing. This highly unorthodox practise was headed by Dr. Varn Lazarus, the owner of the institution. It was also claimed that the intention was to channel messages from an asylum located in the heart of Hell itself. Although it cannot be established if these accounts had any truth, extracts from Dr Lazarus’ journals appear to give some validity to the claims made. Within these three volumes of The Thaylian Asylum, the most coherent documents are now being published for the first time; stories, letters and diary extracts from these archives appear to shed a great deal of light upon what happened at the institution, but as yet, it is undetermined if these are the stories of the insane, the dead, or the damned… From award winning author D G Jones comes the long awaited Thaylian Asylum, set out in three volumes. From what at first appears to be a collection of unrelated stories, it soon becomes apparent that it is in fact a huge novel that not only relates the fate of the asylum itself, but has several different narrative threads running through it. As with many of the writer’s other works, The Thaylian Asylum is a multi-level piece that crosses several genres, filled with secrets, hidden homages and in jokes exploring life, death, revenge, love, hatred, sexual deviance and all things in between. The Thaylian Asylum is a cartwheeling journey that leaves the reader in a breathless tail spin. Volume 1 Includes tales of revenge, madness, love and cosmic lunacy such as: Neighbours, The House of Human Skin, Boiled in Blood, Cult of Wolves, I am Icarus, The Eyeless God and many more.Warning: contains material some may find disturbing.(Abridged versions of Wet, Deconstruction, Squirm and My House has a Ghost have appeared in previous collections).
