Overview
"When K. came, it was late in the evening. The village was buried in snow. The castle hill was completely obscured by fog and darkness, with not even the smallest flicker of light indicating the presence of the magnificent castle. K. remained on the wooden bridge leading from the rural road to the village for a long time, staring up into the apparent emptiness."The novel "The Castle," first published in 1926, is still considered one of Franz Kafka's most popular works.BiographyFranz Kafka was born on July 3, 1883, in Prague, to Jewish parents. Kafka joined the "Arbeiter-Unfall-Versicherungs-Anstalt" (Workers' Accident Insurance Institution) in 1908, where he remained a civil servant until his early retirement in 1922, after completing his PhD in law. Franz Kafka suffered a hemorrhage in late summer 1917, which led to the development of tuberculosis, from which he died on June 3, 1924, at the age of 41.
